In the first nine months of 2023, the sales of the European motorcycle market increased significantly. Italy is the most powerful market for two wheeled vehicles, with the highest growth rate of 19.4%, selling a total of 271552 new cars (Italy’s total population of 58.89 million). Spain ranks second with a 13.4% increase of 154019 vehicles (with a total population of 47.52 million). Ranked third is Germany (with a total population of 83.29 million), which added 190490 motorcycles, an increase of 9.6%. France ranks fourth with a growth rate of 8.7%, with 168118 new vehicles sold. The sales data in the UK has remained relatively stable, with 89806 vehicles sold, a decrease of 0.4%.
In ACEM’s report, Secretary General Antonio Perlot stated that there is a sustained enthusiasm for two wheelers, both in leisure and commuting. The strong growth in the European market in the first nine months highlights the sustained long-term interest of consumers in two wheel drive vehicles, whether for daily commuting or leisure. Data from early October confirms the positive trend of motorcycles, with sales of light motorcycles partially recovering. The motorcycle market is clearly booming, and it is expected that more and more new electric and gasoline models will be launched in the 2024 model year.
Finally, it is worth noting that ACEM’s report does not cover all brands that occupy the two wheeled vehicle market. Mainly focusing on traditional brands: BMW, Ducati, KTM, Augusta, Biacho, Triumph, and the four major Japanese manufacturers. However, sales data for various brands from China in Europe have not yet appeared in this report, so sales may be much higher than the previously mentioned quantity of 873985.
